Are you trying to choose a major or plan a career? Taking the Strong Interest Inventory can be helpful in your academic decision making and career planning. This assessment measures your level of interest in school subjects, occupational areas, work and leisure activities, kinds of people, and various learning and work environments. Your interests are compared with people who are happily employed in a variety of occupations. The assessment will not tell you what to do, but will give you insight into academic majors and occupations that you might enjoy and want to explore.
To take the Strong Interest Inventory
We encourage you to meet with a Career Services career counselor prior to taking the assessment. If your counselor recommends the Strong Interest Inventory, you may take it in the computer lab in Career Services on the 4th floor of the Student Union Memorial Center, Suite 411. The fee is $15.00 for current UA Students and $25.00 for Alumni within one year after graduation (cash, check, debit or credit card accepted). The assessment is available anytime from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Appointments are not needed. There is no time limit to take the inventory, but please allow yourself about 40 minutes to answer the 291 questions.
Interpretation appointments to receive your results
After taking the Strong Interest Inventory, you will be contacted by a career counselor to schedule an interpretation appointment. The counselor will interpret your report and help you to assess your interest patterns related to careers and academic majors. (We will try to schedule your appointment as soon as possible, but due to schedules and staffing limitations, there may be up to a two week wait for interpretation appointments.)
