Parent & Student Roles: Year 4 - Senior

Student’s Role

  • Plan lighter course load; job searching takes time
  • Research company information using Vault, Career Search, Going Global and the Web
  • Attend UA Fall Career Days, the UA Spring Career Days, UA Education Career Day, UA Graduate School Day and other career fairs
  • Discuss career opportunities and plans with faculty, advisors, counselors and professionals in the field
  • Select faculty and administrators to act as references; discuss interests, skills, personal strengths as related to the positions being sought
  • Complete portfolio through Wildcat eFolio
  • Participate in Campus Interviewing
  • Conduct your self-directed job search, concentrating on networking and applying for positions listed on Wildcat JobLink and other Web resources
  • Sign up with UA Career Network to network with UA alumni 
  • Take advantage of any opportunity to interview with employers on campus
  • Research graduate/professional school information
  • Take graduate school admissions test
  • Apply to graduate school
  • Complete senior projects
  • Stay organized; keep a log of your contacts, interview and follow-up activities

Parent’s Role

  • Ask your son how you can help him
  • Listen to the fears your daughter is expressing
  • Offer to talk with your son about his career goals and how his interests and skills relate to them
  • Offer to assist in pulling together names of useful people for your daughter to "network" with
  • Encourage your son to attend UA Fall Career Days, the UA Spring Career Days, UA Education Career Day, UA Graduate School Day and any other fairs that match his interests
  • Encourage your daughter to get assistance with her job search and participate in Campus Interviewing
  • Talk with your daughter about her graduate or professional school plans
  • Listen, be patient and don’t worry

Career Services’ Role

  • Assist students in finding company and organizational information through Career Search, Vault, Going Global and the Web
  • Host UA Fall Career Days, UA Spring Career Days, UA Education Career Day, UA Graduate School Day
  • Assist students in selecting references for job searching and applying to graduate school
  • Offer Job Search Strategies Workshops and individual job search assistance
  • Offer Applying to Graduate/Professional School Workshops and individual assistance 
  • Provide contact with companies that are hiring through Campus Interviewing and resume referral
  • Maintain listings of permanent positions through Wildcat JobLink
  • Maintain and market UA Career Network, a network of national alumni
